The Dental Implant Process

To begin with, one of our highly skilled dentists will develop a treatment plan for your dental implant procedure, typically conducted in stages over several months. Initially, a 3D jaw scan and x-rays will be taken to provide your dentist with precise guidance for implant placement.

In a minor surgical procedure, your dentist will place the dental implant into your jawbone after administering local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort during the surgery. Over approximately three months, your bone will naturally grow around the implant, securing it firmly in place.

During the healing period at the implant site, a custom artificial tooth (crown) will be crafted in a laboratory. Once ready, the crown will be fixed to the metal implant, effectively filling the gap in your teeth.

Dental implants can also be utilised to support a dental bridge or dentures, offering versatile solutions for tooth replacement.

What Are Dental Fillings?

Dental implants are state-of-the-art titanium posts that are biocompatible and function as artificial tooth roots. These posts are carefully placed into the jawbone through surgery, where they gradually fuse with the bone. Once fully integrated, they create a strong foundation for attaching a replacement tooth or teeth.

What Are Dental Fillings?

You might consider getting a dental implant if you:

  • Have one or more missing teeth
  • Are looking for a long-term, permanent solution
  • Want a restoration that closely resembles natural teeth in appearance and feel
  • Desire to restore full chewing ability
  • Aim to prevent bone loss in the jaw
  • Seek to improve your overall oral health

Implant Dentures

At Dental Studio Mooroolbark, we understand that missing teeth can significantly impact your quality of life, affecting everything from your ability to eat and speak comfortably to your self-confidence. Implant dentures offer a sophisticated and reliable solution for restoring your smile with enhanced comfort and function. Here’s everything you need to know about implant dentures and how they can benefit you.

What are implant dentures?

Implant dentures are a type of dental prosthesis supported by dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures, which rest on the gums and rely on natural suction and adhesives, implant dentures are anchored to dental implants placed in the jawbone. This provides a more stable and secure fit, mimicking the natural feel of your teeth.

Types of implant dentures:

  1. Fixed Implant Dentures: These are permanently attached to the dental implants and can only be removed by a dentist. They offer a highly stable solution and are ideal for those who prefer a non-removable option.
  2. Removable Implant Dentures: These dentures are secured by implants but can be removed for cleaning and maintenance. They combine the stability of implants with the convenience of removable prosthetics.

Benefits of implant dentures:

  1. Enhanced Stability: Implant dentures are firmly anchored to the implants, preventing the shifting and slippage often associated with traditional dentures.
  2. Improved Comfort: With implant dentures, you won’t experience the discomfort of ill-fitting dentures or the need for adhesives.
  3. Natural Function: They allow for better chewing and speaking, closely mimicking the function of natural teeth.
  4. Preservation of Jawbone: Implants help maintain the integrity of the jawbone by stimulating it and preventing bone loss that can occur with missing teeth.
  5. Aesthetic Appeal: Implant dentures provide a natural-looking smile that enhances your overall appearance.

The process of getting implant dentures:

  1. Initial Consultation: We assess your dental health and discuss your needs and goals. This may include imaging studies to evaluate your jawbone structure and determine the best approach.
  2. Implant Placement: Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone. This procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and may involve a recovery period during which the implants integrate with the bone.
  3. Healing Period: After the implants are placed, a healing period of several months is necessary to allow the implants to fuse with the jawbone (a process known as osseointegration). During this time, temporary dentures may be provided.
  4. Denture Fitting: Once the implants have fully integrated, custom dentures are crafted to fit securely over the implants. The final dentures are then attached to the implants, ensuring a precise fit and optimal function.
  5. Follow-Up Care: Regular check-ups are essential to ensure the health of your implants and the fit of your dentures. Our team will provide guidance on maintaining your implant dentures and address any concerns.

On average, dental implants can last between 10 to 30 years with proper care. However, the lifespan of implants can vary depending on factors such as age, overall health, and how well aftercare instructions are followed. The artificial tooth component, called the crown, generally lasts about 10 to 15 years before it may need to be replaced. While some implants can endure a lifetime, regular maintenance and potential crown replacements may be required over time to ensure continued functionality and aesthetics.

Dental implants typically start at around $5000 per tooth. This cost is spread out between appointments or can be paid upfront. Implants can also be utilised to replace multiple teeth by using bridges or a larger implant crown, which can make them a more cost-effective option for patients.

We offer a few different payment options at out clinic, the first one being Afterpay. Afterpay works by splitting the total cost into 4 interest free fortnightly installments. The amount Afterpay will cover is dependent on the individual, however, we welcome you to make a split payment if your Afterpay will not cover your total treatment cost.

Another payment plan we offer is Medipay. Medipay is a third party loan scheme which allows for personalised repayment amounts dependent on your financial situation, however interest is added to the total price.

The final option we offer is release of superannuation. This is done by completing a form which outlines the treatment you wish to get done and the total cost of this.
